Edinburgh's Dark Secrets Weekend with John Blackburn and Ian
Lawman
As the
night sky slowly shrouds the historic City of Edinburgh, something stirs in the darkness of Greyfriars Kirk,
something that is said to be getting stronger and more frightening!
Those of
you who choose to join Mysteria on a full weekend of terror are in for a treat. Your Friday Night will commence
when we take you on a private tour of Greyfriars kirk and the terrifying haunt of the Mackenzie Poltergeist at
the infamous “Black Mausoleum!”
For
those of you who survive the experience will be taken to our next location of the evening, Blair Street
Vaults! Originally constructed for storage and workshops the vaults were abandoned by
businesses in the late 1700’s soon to be taken over by the city’s poor slum dwellers and those who prayed on the
venerable, crime was rife and the living conditions were appalling. Burke and Hare, the
infamous body snatchers who sold corpses to medical schools are rumoured to have hunted for victims in the vault
to cash-in on their brutal trade.
To round
up your weekend we will meet up on Saturday evening at Mary Kings Close for our 2nd night of
ghost hunting...
In 1644 the
cramped and filthy conditions provided a perfect breeding ground for disease, and when the plague invaded Edinburgh it deviated the population before spreading North and
West. Over an 18 month period the plague killed a substantial part of the
Scottish population.
The pestilence
struck hard and Mary Kings Close suffered devastating casualties. There are many
events in history where the suffering of the unfortunate victims have left lasting impressions and Mary Kings Close is without exception.
In 1750 the
Royal Exchange was built over the top of the close and in 1845 the subterranean street was closed up due to its ruinous condition and remained closed until in 2003 when it
was opened again to the public.
Parts of the
history have been proven to be legend, however still many ghostly sightings are seen, the most famous is that of Anne, a little girl who has been seen by several
people.
A
more sinister sighting was on the 10th May when a large ghostly image
was captured on film standing in front of an archway at the top of the close on the attractions night vision
camera.
To make
your event even more enjoyable you will be joined by the UK leading medium and Exorcist, Ian
Lawman. Famous for “Most Haunted,” “I’m famous and frightened” and “Living with the
Dead.”
