Dudley Castle’s history goes back many years with the arrival of prince of Mercia in 700AD. According to legend a wooden castle was constructed here, however the first records of a castle were recorded after the Norman conquest of 1066. In 1070 one of William the Conqueror’s followers, Anscuff, built the castle and was still in the possession of the castle when it was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. After Fitz-Anscuff the Paganel family came into possession of the castle they built the first stone castle on the site. The castle was strong enough to withstand a siege in 1153, despite the castle’s valiant stand, in 1173 King Henry II had the castle demolished. In the second half of the 13^th and continuing in on into the 14^th century the castle was rebuilt, the only remaining part of the castle from this period is the castle keep, which can be viewed from the town and the main gates.

The castle over the years has gained a reputation of being the most haunted castle in the midlands, zoo keeping staff have experience many unusual incidents from ghostly footsteps to a full apparition of the Grey lady who is believed to be the ghost of Dorothy Beaumont. It is said that she died of grief after the loss of her child and now wonders the castle grounds and has been seen on several occasions.

The most haunted area is believed to be the undercroft where full apparitions and dark figures have been seen by people attending ghost hunts at the castle.

One of the most bizarre stories to date is the reported sighting of a ghost of an elephant rambling through the undergrowth. 

You will also be joined by one of the UK’s leading celebrity mediums, Ian Lawman whose career has grown from strength to strength with appearances on TV programmes such as “I’m Famous & Frightened, Most Haunted” & “Living with the Dead.”

• We will conduct a workshop to teach you how to increase your  sensitivity & skills required to carry out a successful ghost hunt.
